A US federal court decided on Thursday that Google should open its android operating system to rival applications, after the Internet giant has lost an appeal in an antitrust process filed by Fortnite, Epic Games. The decision opens the way for the Epic Games store to operate in the Google Play store, despite the latter's requirement to use Google's payment system, which collect transactions, according to AFP. Judge Margaret McKeown of the US Court of the US Circuit said in an opinion that a full judge decided to maintain the initial verdict, because the parameters of the initial decision were «supported by the file and the nature of the market». The executive director of Epic, Tim Sweeney, published an X post stating: «Total victory in the epic vs. Google!» Google will continue the appeal against the December 2023 verdict, the next court being the US Supreme Court, according to the Global Director for the company regulatory, Lee-Anne Mulholland.
