In the updated plan, for the period 2026-2035, this peak is estimated at about 8 billion cubic meters, a jump of about 30% in terms of Neptun Deep. How will Romania’s gas production change in the next ten years and how realistic are the estimates regarding the doubling of consumption in three to four years? The data published by Transgaz in the updated plan for the development of the gas network for the period 2026-2035 show a production of Neptun Deep, the 4 billion euro project in the Black Sea developed by OMV Petrom together with Romgaz, which varies in the range of 6-7.7 billion cubic meters, with a peak of production estimated for the year 2028, when the extracted volumes will reach close to 8 billion cubic meters. This new set of data is more optimistic than the one also published by Transgaz in 2020, for the period 2020-2029, when the production peak was estimated somewhere at 6.2 billion cubic meters, and coincides with the data recently published by OMV. Another interesting aspect of the Transgaz plan for the next ten years is the evolution of gas consumption, where it is also an optimistic approach. Last year, gas consumption in Romania amounted to about 10 billion cubic meters. «In the next three to four years, in Romania, an increase in the consumption of natural gas is estimated by about 10 billion cubic meters», according to the plan for the development of the gas network for the period 2026-2035 published by Transgaz. The estimate of Transgaz raises questions in the context where many of the projects that should generate growth are with big question marks.
