Sorin Pâslaru, editor-in-chief of the Financial newspaper: «It is a measure of the progress that the domestic business class has managed to make in the nearly 20 years since accession to the European Union.» The Financiar newspaper today launches in the print the second edition of the Top 100 entrepreneurial companies, a journalistic product whose nucleus are the companies created by the Romanian entrepreneurs, not the assets or wealth of the entrepreneurs. The selection criterion used in this catalog is the turnover reported in 2024 by local capital companies in Romania, and as sources of information are the reports of companies from the Ministry of Finance and those from the Stock Exchange. More than half of the companies in the Top 100 managed to pass 1 billion lei turnover in 2024, a record level, given that at the first edition of the catalog there were only 48 companies with local private capital over this threshold. «Today, there are 52 companies in Romania, with a local shareholder, with business of over 1 billion lei (200 million euros), which is not little for western Europe, nor even for the United States. Any delegation of 50 businessmen, which can present business cards of companies with revenues of over 200 million euros per year, is received from New York and to London and to London.» Sorin Pâslaru, the editor-in-chief of the Financiar newspaper in the argument that opens this year's Top 100 entrepreneurial companies. Cumulative, the first 100 entrepreneurial companies had in 2024 a turnover of 169 billion lei (33.8 billion euros), higher than 11% compared to 2023, with a net result of 10.9 billion lei (2.1 billion euros), up 42%, and with 9,000 additional jobs, to 152,000 employees. The profit margin was 6% in 2024. Only six companies between the first 100 reported losses, the rest reported profit and 21 companies from the top 100 reported a net profit of at least 100 million lei. «The question is who climbs these entrepreneurs in the plane and how a country lens can be assumed – for example, reaching a 1,000 billion GDP, compared to almost 400 billion euros this year, the political class and the entrepreneurial class,» notes Sorin Pâslaru.
