Drivers have at hand an application through which they can find out what is the best price, for petrol or diesel, in the area where they are. Thus, consumers can use the Fuel Price Monitor application to find out the prices charged by gas stations. The Price Monitor application was launched in 2016 for Bucharest and Ilfov, and in 2019 it was extended to the national level. The Monitor of Car Fuel Prices aims, on the one hand, to stimulate competition between car fuel distribution companies and, on the other hand, to ensure the possibility for the consumer to choose fuels with the best value for money. In order to achieve this goal, through the Competition Council Price Monitor project, a database is created that contains the main companies that sell fuels, the geographical location of the gas stations owned by each, the types of fuels (gasoline, diesel and LPG) sold in each gas station, the prices at the pump. The investment in the launch of the Price Monitor amounted to 300,000 euros, according to information published by ZF in 2019. The Price Monitor portal and mobile applications operate at national level in order to make the prices of fuels sold in Romania transparent, namely: gasoline (standard and premium), diesel (standard and premium) and LPG. Also, the Price Monitor allows the location of car fuel stations that allow electric charging.
