♦ «Romania has a real chance to recover the gap between citizens' expectations and the current level of digitization, but also between what other states in the region have already managed to do with the help of automation and artificial intelligence (AI)».

The year 2026 could be a year in which digitalization accelerates in the private sector, but «especially in the public sector» because «Romania has a real chance to recover the gap between citizens' expectations and the current level of digitalization», believes Daniel Dines, founder and CEO of UiPath – the most successful IT company started in Romania, which reported for 2024 local businesses of 3.3 billion lei and an average number of almost 1,200 employees. «I would like 2026 to be a year of accelerating digitization both in the private sector, but especially in the public sector, where the digital transformation has a direct impact on the quality of people's lives. Romania has a real chance to recover the gap between citizens' expectations and the current level of digitization, but also between what other states in the region have already managed to do with the help of automation and artificial intelligence (AI),» said Daniel Dines for the ZF anniversary supplement 27 years old. He warns that a change of mentality is needed for digitization projects to be successful. «Digitalization is not just a technological project, but requires a change in mentality. It means putting the citizen at the center and building simple, efficient, transparent processes around him. Romania has the necessary skills and human resources – what must bring us together is a common vision and the courage to implement the technologies of the future on a large scale.» UiPath, which started as an outsourcing company in a Bucharest apartment, moved on to developing its own products 20 years ago, and is now listed in New York and has become the largest local IT company according to the business reported to the Ministry of Finance – 3.3 billion lei in 2024, compared to 1.1 million lei in 2015. «2015 was the year we had the courage to completely reinvent ourselves – to move from a software outsourcing company to a company fully dedicated to process automation. That decision was the turning point for everything that followed. We chose to build our own technology platform, a product that had the ambition to change the way people work. It was a risky choice, but also a deeply conscious one: we wanted to create real value, not just write code for others.
