Cosmin Filipaş, an entrepreneur from Cluj county who owns an IT business, Thoughtin Transilvania, but also one in the food area, being co-owner of Carmangeria Pasini in Gherla, transformed his love for Greece and sunny holidays into a new line of business, bringing to Romania something of the scent of summers in Crete in the aromatic taste of olive oil. D'Olive, an olive oil brand launched by the Filipaş family in the midst of the pandemic, in 2020, recently became the first Romanian business to own an olive grove in the south of the island of Crete. «Because there is a close connection between us and the family that produces the oil, our collaboration is not just a simple transaction, but a long-term commitment. This relationship ensures the constant quality and continuity we need to always offer the same authentic taste. Our partners saw the acquisition of the orchard as a good thing, it was a natural step and a help from both sides. Our idea is to purchase more land in time», says Cosmin Filipaş. Apart from him, an important role in the oil business is played by his son, David, who is now 14 years old, but has been involved in managing the business since the beginning, since the pandemic. Cosmin Filipaş says that the love between them and olive oil was born in 2018, during a vacation in Crete, and the new business, started as a distribution line through eMAG, became extremely important and a full-time job with David's involvement. «Things got a lot more serious at that point, with big plans for the next ten years.» After five years of importing and distributing extra virgin oils of the Koroneiki variety, the family now becomes the owner of the orchard from which up to 30% of the production sold in Romania already comes. Today, the brand has over 5,500 customers throughout the country and even beyond its borders. Even if the family is also involved in other businesses, David says that the oil business brings him the greatest satisfaction precisely because he develops it with his son.
«The year 2025 is a difficult one from an economic point of view, but we aim to double the amount of olive oil sold, reaching around 26 tons.»Cosmin Filipaş, founder, D'Olive
