If the PSD finds a majority, we will enter the opposition, USR president Dominic Fritz claims, after the consultations at the Cotroceni Palace. He says that the formation will not support a technocratic government, «a government that is a screen for the PSD to control the levers of power in the Romanian state» USR leader Dominic Fritz said at the exit from the consultations with President Nicusor Dan that he conveyed to the head of state the position of the formation in relation to the formation of a majority with the PSD. «We reiterated our point of view that after the PSD made this majority with the extremist party AUR, there is no longer a basis of trust that would allow us to enter a new government with the PSD, there is no longer a basis of trust that together with the PSD we could push the reforms that the Romanians expect. The PSD blocked and sabotaged, blackmailed the reforms for a more flexible state, for more functional public services, for cutting privileges these reforms. We do not see how can we do them with PSD in a joint government», said Fritz. You may also be interested: He declared that «if PSD finds a majority, we will enter the opposition». The president of USR believes that the answer to this political crisis must be political. «The solution can only be a political one and this is the reason why we will not be able to support a technocratic government that would only break the relationship between political responsibility on the one hand and political power on the other. We will not be able to support a government that is a screen for the PSD to continue to control the levers of power in the Romanian state,» said Dominic Fritz.

Interim Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan declared on Monday, at the end of the consultations at the Cotroceni Palace with President Nicuşor Dan regarding the formation of a new government, that the liberals will no longer support and will not participate in a government alongside the PSD, accusing the social democrats of blocking reforms and maintaining unsustainable budget policies. He specified that the PNL rejects even the option of an executive led by a technocrat prime minister if the PSD were part of the governing coalition. «As you know from the decisions we made previously, the National Liberal Party will no longer support a government and will no longer participate in a government in which the Social-Democratic Party will also be found. Also, we will not support a government with a technocrat prime minister in which the Social-Democratic Party will be found. Under the conditions that the PSD will be in government, the National Liberal Party will be in the opposition. Why are we allowed to have this position? It is not taken from a political calculation, but it is taken from a legitimate interest for our country», said Bolojan. In his speech, Ilie Bolojan listed what he called «three major errors» of the political class: the creation of budgetary expectations that could not be sustained, the formation of broad coalitions without reforms and the maintenance in public positions of people who «used these positions for extractive purposes to extract rents from the Romanian state». «In recent years, the political world has made some major mistakes. First of all, from the point of view of public communication, it has created expectations for the citizens of our country that cannot normally be honored, exceeding the real possibilities that Romania has from a budgetary point of view. (…) The second major error was to create large coalitions, such as the PSD-PNL coalition, which had over 60%, which only managed things better or worse, but did not made the reforms that needed to be made for our country. (…) The third error was to allow people who used these positions to extract rents from the Romanian state to occupy important positions, in companies and in some places», explained Bolojan. He also specified the fact that the current government «fell because it tried to block waste from the Romanian state», and continuing a common formula with the PSD would mean «continuing the errors that were in the past». «We will try in the next period to do what is needed for our country in this interim formula», he said, adding that the PNL will remain «a responsible party, which when it comes to real solutions, is at the table and assumes responsibility for Romania».

«We support several options. Any of them can ultimately be chosen by President Nicuşor Dan. Of course, the first option we came up with is the one you all know, that we can be part of the same coalition, but without Ilie Bolojan as prime minister», said Lia Olguţa Vasilescu on Antena 3 CNN. She stated that the PSD could also accept a political prime minister from the PNL, given that the liberals «had to govern until the end of this year». «If he does not assume, PSD can certainly assume a nomination. There is also the option of a minority government around PSD, and I think we can collect the necessary votes», declared Vasilescu. Lia Olguţa Vasilescu also said that the PSD does not reject the idea of a technocrat prime minister, but specified that he should know «the realities of Romania». «There is also the option of a technocratic prime minister, but not any kind of option. We do not reject from the start the idea of having a technocratic prime minister, with a consolidated majority in Parliament from pro-European parties, but no name has been discussed yet,» said the mayor of Craiova. She declared that she does not know who Delia Velculescu is, the name circulated for the position of technocrat prime minister, after political sources consulted by Gândul indicated that this would be Nicuşor Dan’s proposal. Asked if the PSD could take into account a majority with the AUR or a minority government supported by the AUR, in case a majority cannot be formed with the PNL and the USR, Lia Olguţa Vasilescu said that she does not believe that this situation will be reached. «President Nicusor Dan was very categorical, namely that he will not accept any kind of combination with AUR. But I just told you that there is also the option of a PSD minority government and I think we can gather the necessary votes in Parliament», declared Lia Olguţa Vasilescu.

The AUR representatives who went to the Cotroceni Palace asked the President of Romania, Nicusor Dan, a mandate for the formation of the new government. We assume the entry into government and the removal of Romania from the crisis, declared the leader of AUR, George Simion. The President of the AUR presented to Nicuşor Dan a plan to get the country out of the crisis. «We put on the table of Nicuşor Dan the plan for getting the country out of the crisis, we are willing to discuss them (measures no) with anyone who is interested,» Simion said. He also asked for the support of the population to achieve the objectives. «It’s time to put aside the differences and be part of the solutions, that’s what the Romanians are waiting for (…) In the next period we will discuss only and only about solutions (…) We appeal to the Romanians to support us in achieving these objectives (…) if we do not find the necessary majority in the Parliament, we will return to the people», specified George Simion.
