The Romanian ecosystem of start-ups has reached a noticeably higher maturity. The founders think more and more «globally from day one», and the number of active local and regional investors has increased significantly. However, the challenges are not lacking: the difficult access to capital in the scaling stages, the lack of large funds comparable to those in Western Europe and the limited experience of the founders who have reached the exits and reinvest in the next generations. «Our ecosystem works, but on a smaller scale than in the west. We have venture funds, angel investors and a few success stories, but the critical mass is missing. We still have little experience and few founders who have built companies and reinvest in the new generation. Although we have good universities, they are not among the most competitive in Europe, and all this makes us have a lower volume of investments compared to the west.
