CEC Bank granted financing of approximately 17 million lei for the development of a pig breeding farm of the Romsuin Transilvania Agricultural Cooperative in Băseşti, Maramureş county, a project whose total value exceeds 51.6 million lei. The bank is the only bank financier of the investment, which aims both to realize the farm and to support the operational activity. The new facility has a capacity of almost 12,000 animals at maximum population and is considered by the developers to be one of the most modern profile farms in Europe. «Supporting the development of the entrepreneurial environment in local agriculture is a priority for our bank, even more so in the case of strategic investments, which contribute directly to strengthening food security and increasing the competitiveness of Romanian producers. The Romsuin Transilvania project demonstrates that Romanian agriculture has the capacity to develop high-performing investments, at European standards, when there is vision, association and solid financing partnerships,» says Bogdan Alexandrescu, director of AGRI at CEC Bank. The project integrates technologies such as automatic feeding systems, digital animal monitoring and advanced biosecurity standards. Romsuin Transilvania is controlled by Romanian farmers from Sălaj county, active in the pig breeding and fattening sector. The Băseşti project aims to provide the piglets needed to repopulate the cooperative members’ own farms. «Our path started from the desire to produce healthy piglets in Romania, at a fair price, thus reducing the dependence on imports. For this purpose, six pig breeders joined us in a cooperative to be able to access the Program for the support of pig breeders. It was a complex project, built with a lot of work, responsibility and collaboration between all parties involved», says Oana Alexandra Galiş, Administrator of the Romsuin Transilvania Agricultural Cooperative. The investment comes in a context where Romania continues to record a major deficit in the pork production segment. According to the data presented by the company, domestic consumption reached 38.4 kg of pork per person in 2025, above the European Union average of 31.7 kg, while more than 80% of the domestic requirement is covered by imports.
