The annual inflation rate descended in April to the European Union level to 2.4%, from 2.5%in March, Romania occupying for two consecutive month the first place between the member countries, with 4.9%, the data of Eurostat shows. In the euro area, inflation was 2.2% in April, similar to March. The highest rates were registered in Romania (4.9%), Estonia (4.4%) and Hungary (4.2%). At the opposite pole are France (0.9%), Cyprus (1.4%) and Denmark (1.5%). Romania occupied the first position in the European ranking and in March, with an inflation of 5.1%, after in January and February the highest inflation rate had been registered by Hungary, of 5.7%. The inflation rate descended in April in 13 EU states, remained stable in three and grew in 11 countries. Regarding the increase of consumption prices compared to March, in April Romania had an advance of 0.2%, below the EU average of 0.5%. The highest price increase in April VS March was in Malta, 3.2%, followed by the Netherlands, by 1.8%, and Portugal, with 1.3%.
