Ioannis Tsakiris, vice-president of the European Investment Bank, says that the climate challenges are the defining challenge of the times, and they demand solid decisions and partnerships. «The climate crisis is the defining challenge of our time. It demands brave choices, solid partnerships and immediate action,» said Tsakiris at the Climate Change Summit, organized in Bucharest on October 22. He explained that Romania manages to take important steps in this direction, through investments in renewable energy. «Romania is taking important steps in this transition. You are aligning yourself with the European Green Deal. You are investing in renewable energy, cleaner transport and more efficient infrastructure. And the EIB is proud to be a long-term partner on this journey.» Romania's transition to green energy strengthens the economy and creates jobs, increasing the quality of life of citizens. «Each of these projects contributes to Romania's green transition, strengthens the economy, creates jobs and improves quality of life, while reducing emissions and increasing resilience. They also show how Europe works best: when we combine vision, funding and technical expertise to produce real impact at the local level.» Ioannis Tsakiris says that the European Investment Bank Group mobilized 1,000 billion euros by 2030 to finance sustainable energy projects. «The European Investment Bank Group is at the forefront of climate finance. Through our Climate Bank Roadmap, we will mobilize €1 trillion in climate and environmental investments by 2030. We have supported projects that have a real impact on people, businesses and communities.» He continues, exemplifying the important projects that were possible with the support of the European Investment Bank. Among them are: the loan granted to Patria Bank to support SMEs and medium-sized enterprises; Electrica's green bonds, which support the ecological transformation of the energy sector in Romania; investments in energy efficiency in Sector 2 of Bucharest, for urban development; the Teknia and NXP Semiconductors projects, which stimulate research, development and advanced production; sustainable urban infrastructure in Bucharest, with 24.4 million euros for transport and another 10 million euros for energy; the modernization of the railway between Cluj-Napoca, the Diocese of Bihor and Caransebeş-Arad, co-financed by the Recovery and Resilience Mechanism, in the amount of 600 million euros; and the co-investment in renewable energy through CIP Wind Romania, worth 30 million euros.
