♦ The first robot vacuum cleaner from the British manufacturer that combines dry vacuuming with floor washing technically distances itself from the competition by using a continuous roller and a bagless system. ♦ The device competes in the ultra-premium segment, integrating a docking station that ensures washing with water at 60°C and drying with hot air at 45°C. ♦ The local market in this niche is dominated by Asian brands such as Dreame, Roborock and Xiaomi, which mainly rely on rotary mop technology. The British manufacturer of household appliances Dyson launched this week on the local market a robot vacuum cleaner model, called Spot+Scrub Ai, the first in its range designed for simultaneous dry and wet cleaning of floors. The equipment is sold on the company's official website at the price of about 6,110 lei, positioning itself in the ultra-premium segment. This launch marks the company's entry into a competitive market niche, dominated in recent years by Asian manufacturers. From a technical point of view, Dyson's approach differs from the market standard. While most competitors use circular rotating cloths, the new robot uses a microfibre wet roller, the mechanism of which automatically extends by 40mm to clean the surfaces from the edge of the plinths. The device uses camera-based vision systems and artificial intelligence, capable of recognizing almost 200 types of objects and obstacles. According to the technical data provided by the manufacturer, the robot returns to a dirty area and performs «up to 15 concentrated passes» until the stains are removed. «We originally developed robot vacuums to take the daily chore out of vacuuming, and now we're eliminating the need to manually wash floors,» said Jake Dyson, Chief Engineer, Dyson. The docking system differentiates itself in the market by eliminating single-use bags for dust collection. The station uses a technology based on 10 cyclones to discharge dry dirt. Also within the station, the microfiber roll is washed with «water at 60°C» and dried with «hot air at 45°C» to prevent the growth of bacteria. «Dyson engineers have been developing robot vacuum cleaners since the 1990s. We introduced the first DC06 model in 2001 and have continued to develop visualization technology since then. Now we've designed a robot that intelligently detects, identifies and cleans stains, spills and debris, identifying persistent stains and returning to them again and again until they're gone using advanced artificial intelligence. (…) The wet roller cleans itself with fresh water while it spins. It vacuums carpets, washes hard floors and cleans itself hygienically,» said James Dyson, founder of Dyson.Competition with the Asian profile ecosystem Dyson's launch comes in a context where the 2-in-1 robot vacuum segment is being taken over by Asian players, who have set high standards in recent years with complex, self-cleaning docking stations. On the local level, the Dyson model will face directly, on the higher price level, with models such as the Dreame X50 Ultra (sold at prices that can reach up to 7,500 lei, with suction power of 20,000 Pa and thermal station) or the MOVA V50 Ultra model (approx. 5,600 lei). Unlike the British product, these equipment rely on rotating mops and use bags for dust collection. In the lower price segments, the battle is led by the Roborock Q Revo series, which is sold at values between 3,200 and 5,100 lei, while the entry-level segment belongs to Xiaomi models (such as S40 or X20+), with prices ranging between 1,400 and 2,000 lei.
