In August Cristian Pistol (right), the director of CNAIR checks along with Prime Minister Bolojan the A7 site, where there were works carried out by Dorinel Umbrărescu's companies. The works on the 6 lots between Focşani and Paşcani, contracted by the Romanian RAM, are financed by PNRR. According to the works graphs, next year (2026) will run on the highway from Bucharest to Paşcani, on a distance of about 390 km (A7-A3).
♦ The physical stage of the works on Lot 2 of the Focşani-Bacău highway (A7) exceeded 80%, according to CNAIR L PAT SPEDITION, 1,500 workers have mobilized and over 420 equipment on the site ♦ Until the end of 2025 the traffic could be opened on the first 17 km, and in 2026 it could travel from 390 km to 390 km The contract of 2.48 billion lei is financed by PNRR, and the project marks an essential step for the connectivity of Moldova. The works on lot 2 of the Focşani -Bacău Highway (A7), between Domneşti Fair and Răcăciuni, exceeded the 80%threshold, according to the information published by Cristian Pistol, the general director of the National Road Infrastructure Management Company (CNAIR). On this section of 38.78 km, the Romanian entrepreneur RAM Spedition has about 1,500 workers and 422 machines. «Works are carried out at the road nodes Adjud and Răcăciuni, where the physical stage reached 65%, respectively 85%. In parallel, the builder works on terraces, the sheet of the asphalt mixtures and the wear layer, the installation of the metal parapets, the realization of the road markings and the installation of the founder panels», detailed. According to CNAIR official, by the end of 2025, the traffic could be opened over 17 km, between Domneşti Târg and Adjud. The whole lot has a contractual value of 2.48 billion lei, excluding VAT, and is financed by the National Plan for Redress and Resility (PNRR). «If the current work pace is maintained, next year we will be able to travel on the highway from Bucharest to Paşcani, on a distance of 390 km, through A3 and A7,» pointed out the director of CNAIR. This is just one of the major components of the Moldovan highway, considered a strategic project for the connectivity of the East Romania. Currently, throughout the section of Focşani -Bacău, 95.9 km long, the Romanian builder RAM Spedition works with about 4,000 workers. The massive mobilization and the constant pace of execution support the prospects that the entire Bucharest -Paşcani corridor will be functional in 2026. In parallel with A7, CNAIR also carries out other major projects. On Lot 3 Pietroasele -Buzău of the Ploieşti -Buzău highway, the works reached 81%, and on A1 Margina -Holdea, where tunnels are needed, 24 hours a day, with 800 workers and over 200 machines. «The first gallery was already pierced at the end of July, and the piercing of the second gallery is estimated for October.» «The asphalt and beam factories are to be mounted in the site, necessary for the execution of the rolling and passages,» said Cristian Pistol. CNAIR efforts are supported by a record budget for road infrastructure. In 2025, the company has employed an initial budget of 18 billion lei and requested an additional up to 22 billion, while for 2026 a need of 25 billion lei is estimated. From this amount, an important part comes from PNRR and the transport program 2021–2027, but CNAIR officials have pointed out that PNRR is already over -contracted by 300%. «We set out to deliver 250 km in 2025. It is not only a quantitative stake, but a strategic need: to reduce the high-speed road deficit and to connect the Pan-European corridors,» said Pistol. In 2024, Romania delivered about 200 km of highway, and the complete completion of A0, the southern semi-line of the capital, is provided for 2026. The impact of investments is also reflected in the real estate market. Areas such as Timişoara, Sibiu, Oradea or Ploieşti have benefited from the rapid extension of the infrastructure in the last decade, and the east of the country, through Focşani, Bacău and Buzău, now enters the radar of the great developers. In addition to the pace of the works, CNAIR also introduced mechanisms to ensure contractual discipline. The company can issue negative certificates at three months for builders who do not comply with their deadlines, and contracts include monthly cost update formulas, depending on the real prices of the materials. «The inflation of the materials can no longer be a reason for stagnation, and the builders know this,» said Pistol. However, Romania remains below the European average at the density of the highway network, with about 8 km per 100,000 inhabitants, compared with 15 km in Poland or the Czech Republic. Even so, the current rhythm marks an important leap: the network has expanded by 90% in the last decade, and by 2026 it is estimated that there will be 1,000 km of high -speed roads. The Moldovan Highway, together with the completion of the A0 ring, will remodel the economic map of Romania. For the east, it is the first direct connection to the National Highway Network, and for Bucharest and South, an opportunity to degree traffic and integration into European logistics corridors. «If the current pace is maintained, next year we will be able to circulate uninterruptedly from Bucharest to Paşcani. It is a realistic and necessary objective for the competitiveness of Romania,» concluded Cristian Pistol. Road freight transport from Romania has increased by 69% in ten years, three times over the rhythm of the European Union ► Romania has become the European leader in increasing the road freight transport, with an expansion of 69% in the last ten years, three times above the European Union average, the Eurostat data quoted by Colliers shows. The volume has reached almost 29 billion tonnes of Kilometer in 2023, reflecting the accelerated dynamics of the Romanian economy and the transformation of the country into an increasingly relevant regional logistics hub. Coşconel from Colliers points out that this performance is remarkable, considering that ten years ago the market was growing at a very slow pace. Although it records the fastest growth in the EU, the current volume remains six times smaller than that of Poland and only in Hungary. Cosconel explains that the transported volume should be at least double compared to Hungary to reduce the gap to the economies in the region. This concentration on the internal market limits the potential for subsequent development. Only 54%of freight transports are made on the roads, below the European average of 78%, benefiting from a high weight of waterway – about 20%, the second largest value in the EU, due to the strategic position on the Danube. The lack of highways and modern railways represents a major obstacle, and the period 2025-2026 is announced with a slower pace of constructions, which could brake the positive dynamics of the logistics sector.
