US President Donald Trump said on Monday that the United States will «completely destroy» Iran's power plants, oil wells and Kharg Island if the strategic Strait of Hormuz is not reopened «immediately» and if a peace agreement is not reached «shortly», notes CNBC. «The United States of America is in serious discussions with a new, more rational regime to end our military operations in Iran,» Trump said in a post on Truth Social. «Great progress has been made, but if for whatever reason an agreement is not reached soon, which is likely to happen, and if the Strait of Hormuz is not immediately 'Open for Business', we will end our beautiful 'stay' in Iran by blowing up and completely destroying all the power plants, oil wells and Kharg Island (and possibly all the desalination plants!) that we have deliberately not 'touched' so far.» His comments come as the war with Iran enters its fifth week, and the Trump administration is considering sending ground troops to take control of Kharg Island, a major fuel hub that is the centerpiece of Iran's oil industry. About 90 percent of the country's crude exports pass through the island, before tankers cross the Strait of Hormuz loading of about 7 million barrels per day.
