🤓You may have already noticed that text predictions have undergone changes. After many years, we decided to go the way of a more descriptive and developed expression. Forecasts are sometimes longer than in the past, but the user gets more detailed information, which is still created directly by the meteorologist based on the output of various models and his experience with the regional specifics of Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia. Especially for regional forecasts, we place more emphasis on regionalization, time sequence and probability of occurrence of meteorological phenomena, which will be comprehensible to the general public. ❗The text forecast is thus different from the automated output from a single meteorological model, which you watch most often in the form of an icon or a meteogram. It thus offers more detailed information about the course of the weather or a description of phenomena that the point forecast may completely miss. However, it should be noted that even today, meteorology cannot offer, for example, a minute- or kilometer-accurate rainfall forecast, even if you can get that impression from your weather app. A certain degree of uncertainty will always accompany the weather forecast. ❓ In the case of significant uncertainties in the future development of the weather, the meteorologist describes it in the new optional Uncertainties column. We believe that this is another of the added values of the overall change. 🟢Furthermore, the text forecasts now include a brief introduction, where the meteorologist outlines the nature of the forecast period for a quick overview of the weather. ☔️The description of the occurrence of phenomena (e.g. showers, thunderstorms, fog, …) has also changed. While in the past expressions such as isolated and in places indicated only the overall probability and, according to feedback from the public, were not understandable for many people, now the individual expressions are a combination of the probability of occurrence of the phenomenon and the area coverage of the area – e.g. region (so-called POP – Probability of precipitation). The terms can be found in the table below. The uncertainty of the occurrence of phenomena can thus be directly reflected in the forecast. 🟢Newly, estimates of the total amount of precipitation (and snow during the winter) also appear in the regional forecasts. ➡The overall changes reflect the results of a questionnaire for the public that was implemented several years ago. We believe that the new form of text predictions will find its user.
