♦ The economy has slowed visibly, and for a rapid relaunch, the monetary policy interest established by the NBR should decrease, but the already big inflation – the largest in Europe – and the favorable prospects of prices are confusing. Here comes the responsibility of traders of any way of now accepting a smaller profit, a move that would give them the chance to put the shoulder to relaunch the economy.
On August 1, VAT in food has increased from 9 to 11%, and for non -food products went from 19 to 21%, a move that is expected to feed inflation that is already the largest in Europe, by far. And this is not a little while. For example, in June Romania reported an inflation rate of 5.8%, in the context in which in the euro area the indicator dropped to the optimal of 2%, according to the European Office of Eurostat. Even compared to the rest of the countries in the region the differences are considerable, since in Poland the prices for goods and services increased by 3.4%, in the Czech Republic by 2.8%, in Bulgaria by 3.1%, and in Hungary by 4.6%, the same source shows. The increase of VAT since August risks, however, will take this indicator up rather than down, or this is all the more serious as the re -emergence of inflation will cause the BNR to maintain the interest, which would put the obstacle to the economic relaunch. In July, the BNR board, led by the governor Mugur Isarescu, decided to maintain the key interest to 6.5%, invoking, among other things, the evolution of inflation.
► Mobexpert, Lidl and Paco Supermarket are some of the big players who have announced that they maintain (at least temporarily) unchanged prices. They are added a series of SMEs, from ice cream ice cream and beauty salons. ► Prices are not influenced by VAT increase only in food stores, but also in restaurants, pharmacies, gas stations or DIY stores. In fact, everywhere the money changes hands. ► ZF went to stores and took the example of 25 goods from four networks – Lidl, Mega Image, Carrefour and Kaufland. Only three products have the unchanged price in early August. ► On the website of the TEI pharmacy, from the top the 15 most sold dietary supplements, at one third the prices increased between July 31 and August 4. For the rest, patients pay the same after VAT increase. ► In the first five months (the latest data), data from the INS shows that the advance of consumption (in gross series) is only 2.6%, in the context in which a 1.2%decrease is reported. However, it is possible that the data related to the summer months and, then in the fall, indicate an even greater brake.
