A number of over 86,000 natural persons who are in the club of rich Romanians had at the end of 2024 bank deposits greater than 100,000 euros with a cumulative value of almost 92 billion (the equivalent of about 18 billion), according to the latest statistics of the bank deposits guarantee (FGDB). Reported to the total balance of the deposits of the population in lei and foreign currency, about 380 billion lei (about 76 billion euros) at the end of December 2024, the deposits above the threshold of 100,000 euros represent almost a quarter (24%). Bank deposits are guaranteed in the case of bankruptcy of a bank within the limit of the equivalent of 100,000 euros. Despite the still tensioned economic and geopolitical context, with internal political turbulence, with border war, inflation over forecast and small interest on warehouses, the number of Romanians with bank deposits greater than 100,000 euros at the bank climbed with 11,630 in 2024 compared to 2023, a total jump to 86.011.
