ZF Cybersecurity Trends 2025 brought to the fore the most important cyber security actors, together with developers, suppliers and lawyers to debate and understand the new challenges that come with the increase of the digitalization step and the changes that will follow both legislatively and in the AI area.
♦ Increasing the number of companies and institutions that need to take Cyber protection measures is due to the entry into force of the NIS 2 Directive on the security of networks and computer systems ♦ Only about 1,000 companies in Romania were under the Inclusion of the NIS 1 Directive. The NIS (Network and Information Systems) 2 Directive on the security of computer networks and systems will deeply change the cyber security landscape in Romania and throughout the European Union. If about 1,000 companies in Romania are currently under the Inclusion of the NIS 1 Directive, their number will increase to approximately 12,000-14,000 with the new requirements and fields included, said Dan Cîmpean, the director of the National Cyber Security Directorate (DNSC), within the ZF Cybersecurity Trends 2025 conference, how do we build resilience? The event organized by ZF was supported by Bitdefender, Greco, Enevo Cybersec, ING, Vodafone, Bondoc & Asociaţii, Arcanna AI, Provision and Proactive Hunt. «The number of companies will increase, the number of areas that are covered, to 12,000 companies. The paradigm behind this directive is clear, you cannot have resilience at European level if you exclude essential sectors. There will also be organizations that provide a unique solution at national level. It is a natural extension, but which comes with huge challenges,» said Dan Cîm. DNSC is the competent authority at national level for the security of networks and computer systems. He added that one of the challenges is the lack of specialized human resource. «Those who are business leaders need to prepare for the talent competition. When 12,000 organizations will realize that they need a cybersecurity man for the company, they will start recruiting. And then what will happen? We risk cannibalize the market. And if only half of companies will want to hire a man, we have no 6,000 people with experience.» Thus, a solution is the investment in the formation of young people. «Romania produces thousands of graduates annually with cyber security. As cyber threats become more complex, varied and frequent, Romanian companies no longer have the luxury of treating security as a simple IT project. Ransomware, exploiting artificial intelligence (AI) and lack of cyber education among employees creates a risk mix that only resilience can manage. Also, in a landscape where «fraud becomes available in the form of a service», as Alin Becheanu from ING Bank says, attackers can buy fake pages, phishing strategies and even Customer Support to deceive users. «The user must be prepared to recognize an attack. This means education and a system to guide it, not only to have technical protection,» said Alin Becheanu, Head of Fraud Prevention & Monitoring, ING Bank Romania. And in this new ecosystem, artificial intelligence plays an ambivalent role, being both defense tool and an attack weapon, explained Bogdan Botezatu, director of Threat Research at Bitdefender. «Artificial intelligence is not yet an important player in the malware area, but in the sphere of cyber crime, artificial intelligence is one of the fundamental pieces, because it is the basis of phenomena such as Deepfake and the like.» Romeo Milea, Network Development Director at Vodafone Romania, drew attention to the size of the problems raised by attacks. «About 90% of our customers were attacked last year. 83% were not prepared. The lack of security culture is a major problem, and the AI will exploit it more and more. We, with international experience, see attacks that are repeated in the waves.
