Ukrainian billionaire Rinat Akhmetov is one step away from buying the pipe manufacturer ArcelorMittal Iasi, the former TEPRO, Ziarul de Iasi claims. The announcement was published in the Official Journal of the European Union and it consists of the full acquisition of ArcelorMittal Iasi shares. The notification was sent to the European Commission on October 21, and the Commission will analyze the opportunity of the transaction. ArcelorMittal Iasi deals with the production of tubes, pipes, tubular profiles and accessories for them, made of steel, and last year it achieved business of 304 million lei, down by half compared to two years ago, when the business was 660 million lei. Rinat Ahmetov is the richest man in Ukraine, the founder of System Capital Management (SCM), with activities in metallurgy, energy, mining, oil, gas, telecommunications and the patron of the football club FC Shakhtar Donetsk. The billionaire has strong businesses in renewable energy in Romania, and now he is discussing the possibility of acquiring Liberty Galati, the former Sidex. On the energy market, DRI, a subsidiary of the Ukrainian billionaire's DTEK group, wants to reach 1,000 MW in projects of green energy by 2028.
