A devastating fire that engulfed the Wang Fuk Court residential complex in Tai Po, Hong Kong on November 26 triggered a massive relief effort. The massive blaze – one of Hong Kong's deadliest residential fires in decades – has killed at least 94 people, injured more than 70 and forced more than 900 residents to take refuge in temporary shelters. In response to the tragedy, Bitget announced a donation of USD 1.54 million (HKD 12,000,000) to fully support the affected families and help rebuild the community. Following the incident, authorities have launched criminal and anti-corruption investigations into the renovation work and the safety of materials used at the site, while emergency teams continue search, rescue and recovery operations and families try to find their missing relatives.
Funds directed to three trusted Hong Kong charities
To ensure that aid reaches those affected in a structured and transparent manner, Bitget has mandated three of Hong Kong's most respected charities to manage the donation of HKD 12,000,000 (approx. USD 1.54 million). Yan Chai Hospital will receive HKD 5,000,000 ($640,000) to support emergency medical services, treatment of injured people and rehabilitation of affected families. The Hong Kong Salvation Army will receive HKD 3,500,000 (approx. USD 450,000) to provide financial assistance, temporary accommodation, basic goods and support to households that have lost their homes and income. Po Leung Kuk will receive HKD 3,500,000 (approx. USD 450,000) to provide psychological counseling, community support activities and long-term case follow-up for survivors, bereaved families and vulnerable residents in the area. The relief fund is structured so that every dollar is used in a transparent, timely and targeted manner, complementing the Hong Kong government's emergency measures, temporary housing solutions and ongoing inspections of residential complexes under repair. Through medical assistance, financial support, mental health services and direct community outreach, partner organizations will help families overcome the immediate aftermath of the disaster and navigate the difficult road to recovery.
