US stocks firmed on Monday, with significant gains made by the securities of large technology companies. Market activity this week is expected to be low due to the Christmas holiday. The Dow gained 0.16% to end at 42,906.95, the broader S&P 500 rose 0.73% to 5,974.07 and the Nasdaq Composite added 0.98% to 19,764. 89 points. The VIX volatility index fell 8.61% to 16.78 points and the 10-year U.S. Treasury yield fell a hundredth of a percentage point to 4.589%.
