♦ President Nicuşor Dan said immediately after taking over the mandate that the change of generations is one of the main challenges in agriculture and acknowledged that the private sector was faster than the state, starting already the preparation of future farmers.

Romania currently has about 2.9 million farm farms, and of them, 1.7 million, ie about 60%, are driven by people over 55 years old. In other words, more than half of the Romanian farms are managed by people who in the next ten years will arrive or have already reached retirement, according to Eurostat data. In the mirror, only 166,500 farms, ie about 6% of the total, are administered by people younger than 35 years. This means that Romania has ten times more farms in the hands of a generation approaching the end of the career than in those of a young generation that could ensure continuity.
