The start-up Q.TT in Germany, a pioneer in photon processing, has attracted a series of type A type financing worth 62 million euros to accelerate the marketing of its energy-efficient photonic processors, intended for artificial intelligence (AI) and high performance calculation (HPC), according to the press release. The round was led by Cherry Ventures, UVC Partners and IMS.XPand, with the participation of other investors in the field of peak technology (Deep Tech), including L-Bank, Verve Ventures, Grazia Equity, Exf Alpha Al Venionaire Capital, LEA Partners, Onsight Ventures and Trumpf. This investment is among the most significant financing rounds in the Deep Tech field in Europe, laying the foundations for a fundamental change in how artificial intelligence (AI) is processed. As the infrastructure AI expands globally, traditional chip technology (CMOS) reaches its physical limits, performance stagnates, and the demand for electricity reaches unsustainable levels. A report by the International Energy Agency (AIE) estimates that, by 2026, the energy consumption of data centers could exceed the entire annual electricity consumption of Japan. Q.T addicts this problem with a radically different paradigm: processing with light instead of electricity, which opens the way to significantly larger performances and energy savings. «Q.ant has been founded with a bold vision: to redefine the way the world calculates, using light instead of electricity. Q.ant. The start-up Q.ant was founded by Michael Förtsch as a Trumpf spin-off in 2018, independently developing light-based data processing. The Q.TANT team has managed to bring to maturity what the experts have been following for decades: the first commercial photonic processor for real work tasks in the AI and HPC field that performs complex operations of AI faster, while saving significant amounts of energy. The native processing server Q.TT integrates perfectly into today's databases as a plug-in co-processor. Tests under real conditions promise energy efficiency up to 30 times higher, an improvement of the performance 50 times and the potential to increase the ability of data centers 100 times – all without the need for complex active cooling systems, the Q.TT representatives say. «The photonic chips of the Q.TT are prepared to radically reduce the operating costs of the data centers, while offering the exceptional performance required by the next generation of Ia and the high performance calculation.» «With an early commercial impulse and a world -class team made up of Deep Tech experts, Q.TAN is uniquely positioned to redefine the semiconductor landscape, evaluated at trillion dollars.
