In January comes dullness, reduced quality, breakage or a more sensitive scalp. However, the post-Christmas weeks are the ideal moment to give your hair a chance to regain strength and restore its vitality. The Christmas period tends to be difficult for the hair mainly because several types of stress accumulate at once. The most obvious ones are heat styling, dyeing, hardeners, varnishes and dry shampoos. Added to this are temperature changes during transitions from the inside to the outside, as well as internal factors of the organism, which also affect the quality of the hair. However, we often only realize the toll that these holiday changes take on our hair with hindsight. «Hair is not passive – every intervention, be it chemical, thermal or mechanical, is stored in its structure. During a short period, such as the holidays, there can be so many of these interventions that the hair still holds its shape on the outside, but its internal resistance is significantly weakened. This often becomes apparent after a few weeks,» explains MUDr. Gabriela Kičmerová, dermatologist and Revalid brand expert. A typical post-Christmas scenario is worse combing, loss of elasticity and increased brittleness. In more sensitive individuals, there is also scalp irritation, which may be related to the accumulation of styling product residues or a disturbed skin barrier. When the body switches to energy-saving mode In addition to the external load, what happens inside the organism also plays an important role. Lack of sleep, stress and irregularity can affect the supply of nutrients to hair follicles. Hair then temporarily slows down growth or moves into a phase of increased shedding. «The hair follicle is one of the most active structures in the body and at the same time one of those that react very sensitively to changes in the internal environment. If the body is dealing with stress or an energy deficit, hair is not a priority. This can be reflected not only in its quality, but also in the fact that more hair goes into the so-called resting phase and starts to fall out more,» says Dr. Kićmerová. That is why post-Christmas hair loss is not just a cosmetic problem, but a situation that requires a more comprehensive approach. It is often a signal that the body needs to reset the balance and give room for regeneration. This is especially true for people who have long-term finer hair or tend to have thinning hair. Take off the gas and give your hair space It starts with the styling itself. The goal is not to «save hair at all costs», but to reduce the intensity of the load we normally place on it. After the holidays, it pays to reduce daily ironing, curling and blow-drying to maximum power. A lower temperature, fewer repeated strokes over one strand and partial drying of the hair in the air can significantly slow down further damage to the hair fiber. It also helps to include days without heat and looser hairstyles that don't always pull the hair in the same place. «After the holidays, stability is essential for the hair. The fewer extremes, the better. If it is possible to reduce thermal and mechanical stress and at the same time promote regeneration, the hair has room to regain elasticity and resistance,» explains MUDr. Gabriela Kičmerová. «People often want to fix weakened hair immediately, but it really takes time and consistent care.» Everything starts from within In addition to care from the outside, support from the inside also has its place. If the body does not have enough building materials available for a long time, new hair grows weaker. Especially in winter, it is worth considering food supplements that will supply the necessary substances to the hair. «Supplements make sense if they fit into the overall regimen. For hair, we focus on a combination of substances that support the metabolism of the hair follicle and help manage periods of increased stress. Revalid Hair Complex is an example of a supplement that combines essential minerals, vitamins, amino acids and adaptogens, making it an ideal companion for the post-Christmas reboot,» says MUDr. Kićmerová. «It's not a quick fix, it's about promoting healthy growth and working with hair quality longer.» January and February tend to be a burden for the hair in themselves. However, if effective care is established, most post-Christmas problems tend to gradually subside. The hair gains better elasticity, breaks less and the scalp stabilizes. The key is not to try to speed up the process with other extremes – the restart after the holidays is not about drastic steps, but about targeted support and a return to balance.
