Perhaps you too have wondered, at some point, if it is worth staying in Romania or if your future should be sought elsewhere, hundreds or thousands of kilometers away from home. It's a natural question, especially for a generation that grew up hearing that success is often «out there». But the truth is that not all young people see leaving as the only solution. In a context where more and more discussions about the future seem to start with the idea of leaving, Romania continues, however, to remain, for some of the young people, the first option. Not out of convenience, not out of lack of alternatives, but because here I still see real chances for development, close people and enough reasons to believe that they can build something sustainable. What causes some young people to say that Romania deserves to be elected? What are the arguments behind this decision and how do they actually relate to the future? For Ilinca, a student in the 11th grade at the «Nicolae Grigorescu» National College in Câmpina, the future is linked to the technical field and Bucharest. He wants to attend the Polytechnic and continue on a branch of engineering, even if he has not yet chosen the exact specialization. «My plan is to stay in Romania. I think about what it would be like to stay abroad, to arrive home in the evening, to be surrounded by people who have other customs and other cultures. Although I like it, on the one hand, I think that in Romania, at home, I would fit in best. I think that Romania can offer me many opportunities for growth, I trust this,» she says. He still doesn't have everything set up, but he has a direction. The young woman says she wants to study in the country, find a job in the field of engineering, and later, after gaining experience, open her own business. And for Mihnea, a student in the 11th grade at the same college in Câmpina, the choice is clear: Romania and the Politehnica University of Bucharest. He already has several options in mind: Automation and Computers, Robotics or ETI. «I think that Romania is very good in terms of the basis of engineering subjects, the Polytechnic being a top university. I don't consider studying in another country, because I want to be close to my family. I dream of being a programmer. I liked this part since I entered high school and this is my path», says Mihnea. Andrei, a 12th grade student at the «Nicolae Grigorescu» National College in Câmpina, has a similar point of view. He says directly that he will go to the Faculty of Robotics, to the Polytechnic. The young man sees Romania as a very good place for the development of a future engineer. «I think I can learn a lot about engineering in Romania,» he adds. The three high school students are part of a robotics club in the high school where they study and, in March, they participated in the National Robotics Championship, one of the most important STEM competitions in Romania, where they won the 3rd prize for Innovation, with a robot they built from scratch and programmed in Java. Following the results obtained at this contest, the young people qualified for the European Premier Event competition, which will take place in the Netherlands in May. Not only the field of engineering is well seen by the new generation in Romania, but also informatics and artificial intelligence. David is a 10th grade student at the «Tudor Vladimirescu» National College in Târgu Jiu, he is an Olympian in computer science and artificial intelligence, and his path is to continue in the country. «Romania is a place where you can really develop. I'm passionate about computer science and artificial intelligence. I still don't know what my dream job would be, but I know for sure that I want to study in Romania and end up doing at least an internship at Google», says the young man. He participated in the Artificial Intelligence Olympiad in Romania – ROAI 2026 and won the gold medal in the 9th and 10th grade category. These young people are just a few examples, but like them there are many others who want to develop, study and build something in Romania. The voices of these young people show that there is another perspective: the one where the future can start right here. Romania is not only seen as a convenient choice, but as a place where you can learn, evolve and build something of your own. And when this choice is supported by trust, passion and clear goals, it becomes more than just an option — it becomes a path assumed.
